But this is not the only source of information used in compling the biography of Shirdi Sai Baba. Their exists a diary written by Ganesha Shrikrishna Khaparde. This diary was written by Ganesha Shrikrishna Khapade while his stay in Shirdi. This diary describes every day of the author's stay at Shirdi. When speculating about the unknown episode's of Sai Baba's life, they mainly base their conclusions on his words.

However, there is only one source that may be called authentic and comprehensive. This is the compendium written about Sai's life and is known as the Shri Sai Satcharita, written in Marathi, in 1916 by Govindrao Ragulnath Dabholkar (translated into English by Nagesh Vasudevanand Gunaji with English title: Shri Sai Satcharitra) whom Sai Baba nicknamed Hemadpant, which is an account of his life, teachings and miracles of Shirdi Sai Baba. Other important sources about Sai Baba are books by B. V. Narasimhaswamiji such as Sri Sai Baba's Charters and Sayings or Devotee's Experiences of Sai Baba. Another important document is "Sri Sai Baba and His Teachings" by Acharya Ekkirala Bharadwaja which is an in depth study of Sai Baba's life routine and activities.

Lendi baug

After gurusthan there is a place named Lendi baug. Baug is a hindi word which means Garden. It is said that this baug or garden was made by baba. He came here every morning and evening and watered the plants. He loved this garden very much. The word Lendi baug is derived from the hindi word Nalla which means a drain. The main attraction is a neem tree. This tree is said to have historical value because here baba sat and took rest every morning and evening. It is interesting that Baba chose neem tree as his resting place. This is because the neem tree is a actually a tree with medicinal properties with thick branches and dense foliage which provide big shadow in sunny days and keep the air cool. Under this neem tree Baba dug a two feet deep pit and kept an assortment in the form of a lamp in that pit. This lamp form in Hindi is known as deep. The place housing such a deep will be deepgriha. The old deepgriha does not exist anymore and has been replaced by a new marble stone deepgriha. This new place is rechristened as Nanda deep, it continously burns in a glass box. This deepgriha has been provided with the shade of two trees, one of them neem and the other a peepul tree.

Sai Satcharitra

Shri Sai Baba's life and teachings are well documented in Sai Satcharitra by Shri Hemadpant in Marathi which was personally blessed by Shri Sai Baba.

Shri Hemadpant got Shri Sai Baba's blessings in 1910 to write this work. The people of Shirdi first took a notice of him when he was sitting under a neem tree. This place came to be known as Gurusthan. The seat continued to be in the same way till 1941, when the renovation was started on 30th September. However, the renovation did not include building of a temple. The present temple was built after this period. The Gurusthan has a small shrine in it. Inside the shrine, on a elevated platform, a big portrait of Baba is placed. When you enter the shrine, on the side is a marble statue of Baba. In front of the portrait is a Shivling and the Nandi. Photos of twelve Jyotirlingas are kept in the temple. The neem tree is so old that the branches of the Neem tree have come out through the roof of the temple.

At a short distance lies Baba's CHAVADI or resting place. Baba used to sleep here every alternate day. The Chavadi is divided into two parts. One part of the Chavadi has a large portrait of Baba along with a wooden bed and a white chair belonging to him.

Abdul Baba was an ardent devotee of the Baba. His cottage is situated in front of the Chavadi. The Lendi Baug was looked after by Abdul Baba. There are photos and various things which were handled by Sai Baba and Abdul Baba in the cottage.

Save all your chat conversations. Find them online.

Dwarkamai

As the legend goes, Sai Baba came to Shirdi with a marriage procession. The marriage procession continued, but the Baba stayed at Dwarkamai till the very end of his life. When you enter the Samadhi mandir, Dwarkamai is situated on the right side of the entrance. Here he lived a saintly life, solving people's problems, curing their sickness and resolving their worries. Before Baba came to Shirdi, Dwarkamai was not in its present form. It was a dilapidated mosque. Baba did all the hard work and while living there, turned it into Dwarkamai. This proved to people in Shirdi that God was one and could be found in a mosque, as well as in a temple.

Entire Dwarkamai is a testimony to the simple and frugal life style of the Baba. Dwarkamai is made of two levels. Both these levels are unique in their representation. The biggest asset on the first level is a big stone on which Baba used to sit. By the side of the stone, there is a portrait of Baba. This level has two rooms. One contains the chariot and the second a palanquin. Just in front of the room where the chariot is kept is a small temple. A saffron flag flies over it.

When you reach second level, you realise that this was Baba's bathroom. There is a square stool made of stone, which Baba used for taking a bath. The main attraction of this place is the oil painting of Shri Sai Baba sitting in a carved wooden shrine. This level also has the grinding stone and the wooden vessel called Kolamba in which Baba used to keep the Bhiksha brought from the village.

Get the freedom to save as many mails as you wish. Click here to know how.

Samadhi Mandir

It is said that a millionaire from Nagpur actually owned the temple. He was a famous Sai Baba devotee by the name of Shreemant Gopalrao. He wanted to keep an idol of Muralidhar in the temple. But Sai Baba himself became Muralidhar, and Gopalrao dedicated the temple to Sai Baba. This temple later became the Samadhi of Sai Baba.

The temple is built with stones, however, the Samadhi of Baba in the Sanctum - Sanctorum is built of white marble. The Samadhi is surrounded by various decorations including a marble railing and various ornaments. When the devotees enter the Sanctum Sanctorum, they can see the Samadhi flanked by two pillars made of silver with intricate ornamental designs on them. A statue of Sai Baba made of white Italian marble stands just behind the Samadhi. This statue is said to have been made by Late Balaji Savant on 7th October 1954. The statue is covered by a big silver umbrella. The Sanctum Sanctorum is so designed so as to seat 600 devotees with ease with Sai Baba looking over them.

The temple begins the daily chores with a Bhoopali, a morning song at 5 AM. The temple then remains open for darshan by devotees all day long and is finally closed at 10 Pm after Shejrati has been rendered. This is the year long practice which is changed only thrice a year. On occasions of GuruPoornima, Dassera and Ramanavami, the temple remains open through out the night. In addition, a "Jhanki" of Baba, with Baba's photo in a palanquin, is taken out on every Thursday and on each festival.

Forgot the famous last words? The Baba had made a rule for himself to light the erth lams in the masjid every evening. He himself had no means to buy the oil meant for these lamps everyday. The grocers in the area would donate him oil everyday so Baba would light lamps everyday and maintain his rule. Soon enough, the grocers in the area started shying away from providing oil to Baba for free. They reckoned it was a waste to provide oil for erath lamps to be lighted in the masjid. So they lied to the Baba that hey had no stocks. Upon there refusals, Baba, true Avatar that he was, returned to his masjid without any protest. In the evening since there was no oil, he just poured water into the earth lamps and lit the wicks. Lo! and Behold! A miracle happened! The wicks were lighted in the earth lamps filled with water. This was truly a miracle. Like the light from the lamps, the news reached the grocers about this great miracle. Repentant, they fell on Baba's feet apologising and asking for his forgiveness. Sai Baba, The great Avatar, pardoned them and warned them to never lie again or refuse a needy. The Baba said," Do not give me oil if you do not want to give, but my children, do not lie by saying you have no stocks." Thus Baba used a miracle to teach the greedy grocers the value of truth.

Getting There

Shirdi is located approximately 296 Kilometers from Mumbai (Bombay) City in India. Suddenly he heard a voice say "You look tired. Come here and rest a while". He turned around and saw a young Fakir (Baba). The fakir smiled at him and said "What are you looking for in this jungle, Chandbhai". This surprised Chandbhai and he wondered how the fakir knew his name.

Slowly, he said "I have lost my horse. I have looked for it everywhere, but cannot seem to find it". The fakir told him to look behind a clump of trees. Chandbhai was pleasantly surprised to find his horse grazing peacefully behind those trees. He thanked the fakir and asked his name. The fakir said "some people call me Sai Baba."

Sai Baba then invited Chandbhai to have a smoke with him. He got the pipe ready, but there was no fire to light it with. Sai Baba thrust a pair of tongs into the ground and brought out a burning coal. Chandbhai was wonder struck. He thought "this is no ordinary person" and invited Baba to come to his house and be his guest for a few days.

Next day Baba went to Chandbhai's house and found everybody in a very joyful mood and festivities going on all around. He found that Chandbhai's wife's nephew was getting married. The bride was from Shirdi and the marriage party was going to Shirdi. Chandbhai invited Baba to accompany the marriage party to Shirdi. At Shirdi they camped in a field next to Khandoba's temple.

After the wedding, Saibaba stayed on at Shirdi. At first he lived under a neem tree and begged for food whenever he needed it. He then went to Khandoba's temple, intending to stay there, but the temple priest met him at the entrance and told him to go to the mosque. That is how Baba, started staying at the Mosque which was later called Dwarkamayi.

Baba preached at Shirdi all his life and performed numerous miracles to convince people that God exists. He healed people's diseases, provided moral and material comfort to his Devotees. Baba helped bring Unity and Harmony between all communities. He said that God is one, but called by different names. He said follow your own religion and seek the truth.

One day a rich millionaire named Booty came to Sai Baba and said he was going to construct a stone building for Shri Krishna. Baba helped him plan the building. Before the building was completed Baba fell very ill. On the 15th of October 1918, he breathed his last. His last wish was to be buried in Booty's building.

Booty's stone building came to be known as Samadhi Mandir. He insisted on this. He has given this vishnu sahasra nam book to syama after taking it from another ramadasu, though ramadas wanted to have it blessed by baba. At this point sai baba told very very important points about vishnu sahasra nam parayan. He strongly recommended that the reading of this book will give peace, protect us from dangers and make the way to God realization easy. Baba's words "some time back, my heart was beating with tense, i was in danger then i hugged to this book. This has protected me. Read slowly but regularly. Read atleast one sloka or stanza from this book". These are very meaningful and helpful advice to all of us. We started reading thus, as said by baba. We found many advantages and the summed up blessing helped me to achieve my temporary goal. I used to count reading sahasra nama parayan 108 times as one avarthana, (one round). If you go on doing thus avarthanas after 3 avarthanas you feel devine help to help you to acheive your strong desire. But though you read three times a day, it takes one month for one avarthana. Daily four times this aarathi is sung. The names of these aaratis are:Kakad Aarati, Madhyana Aarati, Dhoop Aarati, Shej Aarati.. There is an interesting aspect in this shirdi aarathis. Shirdi sai baba is a fakir , respecting muslim relegion, as well as Hindu. Muslims pray namaz 5 times a day, without fail at pre determined times , turning to mecca side. This is a great and wonderful rule, that muslim relegion laid to keep all the followers relegious and pious. Hindus lack this, as they can pray when and where they like. But , to fill this gap, shirdi sai baba aartis are like namaz, we sing these aartis 4 times a day. Each aarti has different meaning , concept and tune. These aarti is normally sung in marathi language, since the times of shirdi sai. So, we the devotees from other languages could not know the full meaning . If you are telugu devotee, there are translated , aaratis sung by SP Balasubrahmanyam. These aartis are really wonderful, because of the talent of sp balasubramanyam, these were sung in excellent way, and you will be understanding the full meaning too. Better try to listen these. You can listen on line these from shiridi sai baba aaratis
Labels: shirdi, shirdi sai aarati, telugu aaratis, sp balasubramanyam aarati

The trio of shirdi , parthi and prema

The trio of shirdi , parthi and prema
Shirdi sai baba ended his avatar and before that event he told nearby people that he would take birth in andhra pradesh after eight years. Not only that, satya sai baba even in his childhood, in a remotest place where none knows about shirdi sai, spoke about shirdi sai baba and has shown proof that he is shirdi sai avatar only. The great saints , avatars never tell a lie. So, we can take this granted and have faith in this. Many people, many shirdi sai devotees do not agree for this, but please do not under estimate satya sai, though you do not know the full details or truth. The great sign for our spiritual growth is to respect all saints, avatars and never to belittle anyone with doubt or suspecion. Thats why every line in this is so meaningful, and powerful. You can read it any number of times and you never get tired or bored.
All the desciples , devotees of shirdi sai baba recite or parayan this sacred book sai satcharita daily or weekly. There are two important types of parayan of this sai satcharitra. One is daily parayan which means, daily you will read one chapter from the book. There are about 51 chapters in this satcharitra and it takes about 50 days or so to complete. The second method, more powerful one is weekly parayan. You will complete reading this satacharita in a week, as prescribed in the book. Each day it takes about one hour to complete this weekly parayan. If you do this weekly parayan, you will get really some power and you can achieve your immidate goal, this has been proved to me too.
After parayan, we make prasad or offering to baba and donate some money , may be two rupuees or more to shirdi samsthan or your local baba temple.
